Tony Moody was first introduced to photography while in the 7th grade, when he learned to develop black and white film. Moody kept photography as a passing hobby until his son started playing sports. With a desire to document the world around him, and the beginning of he digital age, Moody decided to get back to what he loved to do, photography. Moody strives to continue learning and improving his craft.

However helpful docents, curators, and gallery owners can be, some questions can only be answered by the artists themselves. That’s where Boise Open Studio Collective Organization (BOSCO) comes in.

Every October, Boise Open Studios Weekend is your chance to ask questions, interact with local artists, and buy work directly from the creator. BOSCO was established 16 years ago to foster greater understanding of the creative process between artists and the general public. The nonprofit bridges the gap between the artists who live and work in our community and those of us who appreciate them.

We are pleased to highlight the work of artist Rachel Teannalach, our September 2019 artist of the month.

Rachel Teannalach is a contemporary landscape painter based in Boise, Idaho. Originally from northern New Mexico, her traveling painting pack has taken her from Marin County to Iceland and many places between. Teannalach’s focus over the last several years has been collaborations with conservation organizations, supporting their efforts to preserve the lands she loves to paint. She is known especially for her “tinyExpanse” daily paintings. Teannalach is represented by Capitol Contemporary Gallery in Boise and Simon Breitbard Fine Arts in the San Francisco Bay Area.

It’s impossible to talk about art in Idaho without mentioning the Boise Art Museum (BAM). For more than 80 years, the museum has been giving everyone in our community the chance to live in a world filled with art. From toddlers to seniors, professional educators to homeschoolers, rural communities to fashionistas, people from all walks of life have been inspired by BAM’s exhibitions, collections, events, and educational opportunities. It’s hard to understate the impact they’ve had on the Treasure Valley and for that, we are truly grateful.

Allie was born and raised in Utah where she grew up watching her dad, Michael Hadley paint and sell his work in Jackson, WY.  In the past 3 years her art career has grown exponentially. She’s participated in several plein air competitions winning awards including the most recent award of “Best of Show” at this year’s Eagle Plein Air Festival in Eagle, ID. Allie is represented by The Mission Gallery and Relics Gallery in Utah.

Movement and music come together to express abstract ideas and emotions; the body becomes both artist and medium. That’s powerful stuff!

Off Center Dance wants you to experience that power for yourself. OCD is an Idaho modern dance company whose mission is to bring dancers and artists together for the sake of art. The company has been performing in the Treasure Valley for 11 years and has also brought its breathtaking work to Twin Falls, McCall and Orofino.

We are pleased to highlight the work of artist Karen Eastman, our July 2019 artist of the month.

Karen Eastman began focusing on her individual art career in 2004, showing her work in many venues from large outdoor shows to several galleries in San Diego, Laguna Beach, Las Vegas and now Boise. Since moving to Boise, Idaho in 2013, she was asked to create a public art installation as well as be on the cover of the Boise weekly for the last 5 years in a row.  In addition to painting full time, she works with local designers to create custom artwork for their clients. Artist Surel Mitchell was a force for artistic, familial, and civic collaboration here in Boise. Whether it was a conversation or an art installation, she inspired people of all walks of life to come together to make something beautiful. Originally from Pennsylvania, Surel embraced Boise as her home and she was a vital in making the Boise arts scene the vibrant community it is today. When Surel passed away in 2011, artists, friends, and family mourned the loss of her warm personality and extraordinary talent.

We are pleased to highlight the work of artist Kylene Collette, our June 2019 artist of the month.

Kylene Collette is a proudly South African export currently residing in Boise, Idaho. She has designed over 100 retail stores, created branding for a successful student accommodation group and worked asHead of Crafts for a children’s television show. She is an exhibiting member of the Treasure Valley Artist’s Alliance and was the City of Eagle’s Artist of the Month, exhibiting at City Hall in March 2016. Collette is currently the on-campus Interior Designer for Boise State University.
