Alley Repertory Theater: Playing with Our Emotions

Located in the heart of Garden City’s rapidly expanding Live-Work-Create District, Alley Repertory Theater is a bold, risk-taking cultural leader and an artistic home where established professionals mentor emerging artists to create high-quality, innovative, and culturally sensitive productions.

Alley Rep has produced nearly 45 plays, held numerous readings of original plays by local playwrights, and helped nurture the careers of performers, directors and designers alike. Our productions tackle a range of subjects and are aimed at people and cultures from all walks of life. From timely, contemporary, Pulitzer Prize-winning plays to well-known musicals to Christmas Extravaganzas, Alley Rep strives to be a company that produces quality and inclusive theater.

Alley Rep’s 2019/20 season, their 12th, promises to be a feisty season of groundbreaking work featuring true stories about defying convention and daring to live completely as who we are and who want to be.  Three plays – raw and ripe with humor and humanity – that fearlessly reflect our world and invite us together to laugh, live and, above all else, to play fiercely.

In October, the season kicks off with Theresa Rebeck’s Bernhardt/Hamlet, beginning October 10th with a pay-what-you-want preview. October 11th is opening night and the show runs through October 20.

This will be followed by two shows ripe with humanity and humor, with the presentation of La Cage Aux Folles (by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein) in December of 2019 and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City by Halley Feiffer in March of 2020.

And be sure to keep an eye out for information on “Alley Rep’s Annual Affair”, a fundraiser for the theater on October 25 at the Visual Arts Collective.

Donations from the Pettitt Group and others help this nonprofit realize its mission of providing professional opportunities to local and national emerging and established artists of various disciplines to come together and create powerful, relevant theater productions for growing audiences in Boise and the Treasure Valley.
