North End

It's hard to conceive of an area that is as at once historical and upwardly trending as Boise's North End, one of the most notable of Boise neighborhoods. Homes here range from classic bungalow and mission-style constructions to restored homes and contemporary condos. Likewise, the neighborhood sits between the rustic splendor of Boise's foothills and the quirky hipness of downtown.

Once connected to downtown by trolley, historic Hyde Park is now a thriving shopping district. That exemplifies the growth of this area since the time when our team leader, Andrea pedaled her bike around what was a much-less populated space. The North End is one of the most prized real estate districts in not just Idaho, but the entire American West!

North End Boise Real Estate

Two-storey home for sale in North End Boise Idaho

I grew up riding my bike all over Boise’s North End. I can remember when Hyde Park was mostly deserted except for a run-down laundromat and the original Boise Co-Op. This area has grown and gentrified, with aging historic homes now restored to perfection and North end Boise real estate is some of the highest in the valley.

The North End offers historic neighborhoods, foothills view properties, new infill construction and some mid-century pockets here and there. North End homes for sale include detached single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and apartments.

You’ll find a diverse mix of architectural styles in the North End. Older homes include charming ranch, craftsman, colonial, and Tudor style homes. Newer constructions may have sleek lines or custom features that take inspiration from different eras and geographical regions.

Higher-end homes for sale in North End Boise have all the features you need for the ultimate comfort and convenience. Many have been remodelled or custom built with incredible attention to detail. Some features you might expect to find include:

  • Hardwood floors
  • Fireplaces

  • Soaking tubs
  • Granite countertops
  • Kitchen islands

Favorite North End Boise Neighborhoods

Beautiful homes for sale in North Boise

Below are some of my favorite historic North End pockets. I could write a book on North End neighborhoods alone. Feel free to email me directly with any questions about Boise neighborhoods.

North End “Trolley Streets”

There are a few streets in the North End that used to be part of Boise’s trolley system. Once the trolley system was removed, these extra-wide streets became some of the most gracious in the North End.

North 24th Street between Ellis and Lemp is my favorite street in the entire North End. Gorgeous homes from the early 1900s grace oversized lots with huge mature trees—it’s a super-prime location. The neighboring blocks are wonderful, too. Highlights include Elm Grove Park at 23rd & Irene and the area around 6th & O’Farrell.

Streets to wander and explore include Thatcher, Pueblo, O’Farrell, 7th, 6th & 5th. This is such a quiet part of the North End with easy access to the Boise Co-Op. Neighborhood landmarks include Hollywood Market at 8th & Resseguie.

South of State Street

This area is not as in-demand as the area north of State Street, however this provides an opportunity to get a home with all of the benefits of North End living at a better price. Plus, as people will tell you who live in this area, the convenience that living south of State provides is a huge benefit.

This area is closer to the Greenbelt and downtown, has easier freeway access, and is within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Highlights include the park at 23rd & Bannock plus the shopping district at 17th & State.
