Every October, Boise’s Original Artist’s Open Studios Weekend Tour provides an opportunity to visit local artists’ studios, interact with them and purchase their work directly.

BOSCO, a nonprofit established 16 years ago, bridges the gap between the artists who live and work in our community and those of us who appreciate them.

This year’s tours will take place October 3rd – 4th and October 10th – 11th. In addition to in-studio visits, you can also watch virtual video tours and Facebook Live tours. To learn more, visit their Facebook and Instagram pages, or click on their web site.

Each year the Pettitt Group chooses 12 nonprofit arts organizations to support. We donate $1,000 to one of the groups every month during the year.

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, more of our “performance” organizations are transitioning to online, interactive programs. And, sadly, not all of them have been able to continue their public programs in this forum.

Here is a July calendar of events that are scheduled to take place. We are excited that these organizations can share their collective missions with our community despite necessary social distancing. (Disclaimer: DO confirm that dates and locations haven’t been further affected.)

Open Arms Dance Project is a community of dancers with diverse bodies, ages, abilities, and dance experience creating powerful art together in Boise since 2008.

They perform in unexpected and exciting spaces that increase their visibility in the community: under stage lights, in the Idaho State Capitol rotunda, in lobbies, through crosswalks, on sidewalks, and even at the Anne Frank Memorial in the rain!

Their mission is to create greater joy and compassion in the community with dance that opens hearts, minds, and arms. Open Arms sees everyone’s body as a dancer’s body, believing in joyful, empowering movement, and treating each other as equals.

When most people hear the word “art,” they think of visual arts like painting, photography, and ceramic. But one of the most dynamic, evocative forms of art is dance. Movement and music come together to express abstract ideas and emotions; the body becomes both artist and medium.

Off Center Dance has created over 30 new works and six dance films. Their gifted dancers are immensely passionate and have dedicated years to the study and performance of dance.

We’re certainly grateful for the beauty Off Center Dance adds to the reality of the Treasure Valley community! For more information visit their website, or on Instagram @offcenterdanceidaho.

Story Story Night brings its audiences together like family — with inspiration, insight, connections, revelation and change. They have been opening up their stage to our community of storytellers for almost 10 years, giving back to the community in a realistic and cooperative way. This alliance is built on trust.

The 2020 Season is based on the decades (and all the dated associations that go with them). Attendees will laugh and cry with recognition as they party like it’s 1999 (and any given era before and after).

See how it all adds up when we go there with true stories told live on stage and without notes. With featured storytellers intermixed with an open story slam, it’s like once upon a time without the fairy tales.
