We don’t have to sell you on the breathtaking beauty or tremendous talent of Ballet Idaho. But what you probably don’t know is how much this wonderful nonprofit does to strengthen the minds and bodies of young people in our community.

Ballet Idaho’s Learning Through Dance empowers children via interactive and performance-based arts programming. Participants gain confidence, creative thinking abilities, and communication skills. “It’s the voices.” It’s Opera Idaho’s tagline. It refers, of course, to the glorious voices that make every performance memorable. On a deeper level, Opera Idaho gives some important points of view a chance to be heard. Alongside favorites from Puccini, Gilbert and Sullivan, Handel, and more, are works that challenge the very notion of what opera is and its relevance in today’s world.

This spring, Opera Idaho presented As One, a coming-of-age story about a transgender woman. This powerful work gave rise to a panel discussion focused on gender identity and social topics explored in the opera. Considering Matthew Shepard was a particularly prescient choice for Opera Idaho’s Critical Mass Vocal Artists during Pride Month. It was a moving musical…

What was he thinking when he created that? How does she paint with beeswax? What is the path to becoming a glassmaker? However helpful docents, curators, and gallery owners can be, some questions can only be answered by the artists themselves. That’s where Boise Open Studio Collective Organization (BOSCO) comes in.

Every October, Boise Open Studios Weekend is your chance to ask questions, interact with local artists, and buy work directly from the creator. BOSCO was established 16 years ago to foster greater understanding of the creative process between artists and the general public. The nonprofit bridges the gap between the artists who live and work in our community and those of us who appreciate them.

It’s impossible to talk about art in Idaho without mentioning the Boise Art Museum (BAM). For more than 80 years, the museum has been giving everyone in our community the chance to live in a world filled with art. From toddlers to seniors, professional educators to homeschoolers, rural communities to fashionistas, people from all walks of life have been inspired by BAM’s exhibitions, collections, events, and educational opportunities. It’s hard to understate the impact they’ve had on the Treasure Valley and for that, we are truly grateful.

According to BAM, many people in our community grow up without experiencing original artwork in a museum. Numerous Idaho families lack the resources to buy basic art supplies. Most children in Idaho do not create…

When most people hear the word “art,” they think of visual arts like painting, photography, and ceramic. But one of the most dynamic, evocative forms of art is dance. Movement and music come together to express abstract ideas and emotions; the body becomes both artist and medium. That’s powerful stuff!

Off Center Dance wants you to experience that power for yourself. OCD is an Idaho modern dance company whose mission is to bring dancers and artists together for the sake of art. The company has been performing in the Treasure Valley for 11 years and has also brought its breathtaking work to Twin Falls, McCall and Orofino.

Off Center Dance has created over thirty new works and six dance films. Their gifted dancers are immensely passionate and…
